Long anticipated, new upgraded crossing has all the bells and… whistles? No, flashing lights!
Northumberland County, in collaboration with the Municipality of Brighton and railway partners: CN Rail, CPKC and Operation Lifesaver, have announced the completion of construction work at the Prince Edward Street (CR 64) railway crossing in Brighton. This upgrade comes in response to the growing volume of vehicular traffic, pedestrians and cyclists using the crossing, plus the increased frequency and speed of passing trains.
These newly implemented safety features are a significant milestone for the town with these improvements offering advanced warning systems and barriers to provide all users with clear direction on how to safely approach and travel through the railway crossing.
“We are thrilled to introduce the latest safety measures in the heart of Brighton,” commented Denise Marshall, Director of Public Works. “These changes set a new standard of safety around the tracks and trains in Brighton, providing residents and visitors with a secure way to safely approach and cross the double tracks.”
